Shelter believes that everybody needs a home in a place where they can thrive.

This year, we are delighted to announce that the British Mortgage Awards will be in support of the charity Shelter

Shelter was founded in England in 1966 by the Reverend Bruce Kenrick, who was horrified by the state of the tenements round his Notting Hill parish. The setting up of the organisation in Scotland followed shortly after in 1968.

Shelter is a charity that works to alleviate the distress caused by homelessness and bad housing. It does this by giving advice, information and advocacy to people in housing need, and by campaigning for lasting political change to end the housing crisis for good.

Shelter aims to be a model organisation in terms of challenging inequality and promoting diversity, social justice, equality of opportunity and human rights.

The bulk of Shelter's funding comes from donations made by individuals, organisations, charitable foundations and businesses.

This year, Shelter is teaming up with Nationwide to launch Strip4Shelter, an exciting football-themed fundraising initiative that brings people together to show their support for their team, and for Shelter, during the World Cup celebrations.

Registered charity number in England & Wales (263710) and in Scotland (SC002327).
